Position Title:   Bus Monitor



Primary Function:   Assists the bus driver in supervising, loading, and unloading students.

 

Primary Goal:         

To provide assistance in transporting students safely and efficiently to and from their
assigned destinations with the guiding principle “What is Safest for My Students?”

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Must have personality and patience to deal with young children

Must be able to communicate effectively 

     

Essential Job Functions:

Assists the bus driver in maintaining student control.

Assists in seating all students.

Assists in supervising the loading and unloading of students.

Assists in the pickup and delivery of students from/to parent, guardian or authorized individual.

Assists in monitoring all students for any medical or behavioral changes that could lead to or cause unsafe conditions and alert the driver when necessary.

Promote good public relations through professional and ethical execution of job responsibilities 

Performs any other responsibilities as required for students by supervisor(s).

     

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. 

Possess the required skills needed to communicate with students in a positive, yet affirmative manner; especially while dealing with the many different behavioral characteristics and cognitive levels of students.

Knowledge of route directions, stop locations, and student information in order to assist a substitute driver.

Use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.

Requires opertainting equipment, lifting, bending, squatting, scooting, climbing, reaching, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 125 lbs.

Willingness to work in tandem with the bus driver to establish and maintain a safe and controlled environment on the bus.

 

 

Evaluation:           

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations

 

Employment Terms:  180 days contracted yearly.  In-service as required.
